Adhesive for temperature-sensitive voice coil motors in smartphone cameras

Adhesive for temperature-sensitive voice coil motors in smartphone cameras

Tiny motors with high demands

VCMs are extremely small motors. Their components are only a few millimeters in size and are usually made of temperature-sensitive materials. Their production aligns with strict temperature and quality requirements, which spurs demand for the right adhesive. With DELO DUALBOND LT2221, we present a purpose-built dual-curing adhesive characterized by its low curing temperature, a solution for many applications in consumer electronics.

DELO Dualbond: A versatile adhesive

This low-viscosity product enables very fine bondlines, allowing you to join very tiny components. With a compression shear strength of up to 8 MPa on LCP, the adhesive is as strong as it is versatile.

To make your production processes even more efficient, DELO DUALBOND LT2221 can be fixed with light. Combined with DELOLUX high-power lamps, you can fix components with light in just 0.5 seconds after joining—especially advantageous considering the many bonds within a VCM. Curing of non-translucent areas is typically carried out in 90 minutes at +60 °C via heat curing.

Advantages at a glance:

  • Suitable for bonding very small components
  • Fast production processes thanks to dual curing
  • Compression shear strengths of up to 8 MPa
  • Light curing in just 0.5 seconds
  • Complete curing at only +60 °C

”We have a long history of working hands-on with camera module manufacturers to bring them tailor-made solutions, particularly about active alignment,” explains  Maximilian Baum, Head of Product Management for consumer electronics assembly and equipment at DELO. “With this universal, yet high-end adhesive, our customers will be able to use it for almost all of the dozens of bonding tasks in a VCM—something that is rare in today’s highly specialized high-tech manufacturing.”

Adhesives for every application

VCMs are an important part of smartphone camera modules, enabling functions such as auto-focus and optical image stabilization, established technologies that have been used in smartphone cameras for several years.
